Some volunteers are like jewels. Like beads strung together in a fabulous necklace, some work best when set alongside others. Or like a big diamond, some are so spectacular that just having them presented singularly into an exquisite setting is enough. Either way, you are achieving a desired impression or sending a particular message to an intended audience. Some volunteers are like baking ingredients, which when paired together, become something else. Some ingredients are catalysts, others keep things together, and still others provide flavor, texture and color.

The point is that there is no one way to best manage volunteers and there needs to be an intended outcome as volunteers are approached to work with you. Discussion will include strategic thinking behind when and how to use volunteers.

Ms. Haggerty will cover topics such as targeting and recruiting volunteer prospects, job descriptions, empowering them to act independently, providing needed training, and sharing information needed for their success. Additionally, she will discuss managing expectations and measuring success for both your volunteers and your internal collaborators.
