Best Practices for “Multi-Modal” Fundraising

Description: Email! Direct Mail! Social! Everyone is promoting THEIR approach. But what works in fundraising now, and most importantly, why? Melissa Brown has prepared a special session for PIDN focusing on the research about the various methods or vehicles for fundraising to share with us what studies have shown really works in charities like ours. She will link HOW we ask with WHAT we raise and challenge us to think “outside the envelope” in ways to educate and engage donors.

Speaker Bio: Melissa S. Brown helps charities turn knowledge into action. Melissa is a highly rated speaker who is known for making data interesting and applicable to fundraising practice. As part of her practice, Melissa analyzes charitable gift data, surveys donors and non-donors, and teaches for The Fund Raising School at IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.

Before founding Melissa S. Brown & Associates in 2011, she worked at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, editing Giving USA (2001-2010) and researching charitable giving.

Melissa volunteers on the AFP Research Council, for the Fundraising Effectiveness Project, and the Association of Philanthropic Counsel. She

studied at Reed College (B.A. in political science) and the University of Pennsylvania (Master of Governmental Administration). She and her spouse live near Portland, OR. Melissa enjoys gardening, bird watching, and travel.

Membership: Only $55 /year for 10 programs plus other PIDN benefits.
